Kelsy Ully is Jonathan Scott’s first wife. The Property Brothers co-host married her in the summer of 2007, when she worked as an airline crew scheduler. By his account, the marriage broke down within about two years. Ully has never given a public interview about the relationship. Almost everything known about it comes from Scott: a 2017 People interview, the memoir he wrote with his twin brother Drew, and later podcast remarks. The one record that reflects her side is a 2017 In Touch report based on court papers from their divorce.

Key takeaways

  • Kelsy Ully was Jonathan Scott’s longtime girlfriend before they married in 2007. Scott later said she wanted the date 07/07/07 and that “there was sort of a rush going into it.”
  • In his 2017 memoir, It Takes Two: Our Story, Scott ties the breakdown to growing distance during the couple’s Las Vegas years and says counseling did not save the marriage. This is his account, and Ully has not publicly responded to it.
  • In Touch reported in 2017, citing court papers, that the couple were in a legal dispute over the sale of their home in Canada. The divorce is widely reported to have been finalized in 2013.
  • The couple had no children. As of late October 2026, Scott is engaged to Zooey Deschanel and has not remarried, so Ully is the only woman he has married.

How Jonathan Scott’s first marriage became public

For years, Property Brothers viewers did not know Jonathan Scott had been married. That changed in March 2017. Fox News, summarizing his interview with People, noted that Scott had “long been quiet about his past divorce.” In that interview he referred to his former wife only as an “airline-crew scheduler named Kelsey.” Some coverage still uses that spelling, but most later reporting, including Entertainment Tonight in 2023, uses “Kelsy Ully.”

A fuller account followed in It Takes Two: Our Story, the twins’ memoir, published September 5, 2017. In an October 2017 interview with Fox News, Scott explained why the divorce belonged in the book. “I never talked about my divorce before and anyone who has been through divorce before knows how painful that is,” he said. “When I commit to something I commit 100 percent and knowing I failed and we just weren’t meant to be together was difficult.”

How the relationship and wedding began

Kelsy Ully and Jonathan Scott had dated for years before they married. Fox News reported in October 2017 that they had been together for more than six years by the time of the 2007 wedding. Other outlets give different timelines, and one says the two met in 2007. The safest reading is that she was his longtime girlfriend.

During the relationship, Ully worked in airline operations. Scott and several outlets describe her as an airline crew scheduler. Wikipedia’s article on Scott, citing her LinkedIn profile as it appeared in 2017, says she was reportedly a crew scheduler at WestJet, the Canadian airline.

Scott has said the wedding date set the pace. “There was sort of a rush going into it,” he told People, as quoted by Fox News. “She wanted to get married on 07/07/07 . . . so it wasn’t something that naturally happened.” Some biography sites state that the wedding took place on July 7, 2007. Scott’s quote shows only that she wanted that date. The documented timing is the summer of 2007.

He described the ceremony itself years later on the You Made It Weird With Pete Holmes podcast. Entertainment Tonight reported on October 30, 2023, that the wedding was held outdoors by a lake and that his first wife ruled out bagpipes. “It should have been a red flag for me, but I’m Scottish. I’m proud of my Scottish heritage,” Scott said. “I get that it’s too loud in a church or something, but we were out on the lake.” The word “forbade” comes from ET’s headline. Scott’s quoted remarks do not use it.

What went wrong, according to Jonathan Scott

Scott’s memoir is the only detailed public explanation of why the marriage ended, and it is told from his side.

According to Scott’s books, as cited by Wikipedia, the couple moved to Las Vegas, settling in Summerlin, in December 2008, after the US housing market collapsed. In the memoir, Scott describes the Las Vegas period as the stretch when the marriage came apart.

Ully took a job at a Las Vegas day club serving drinks at a pool, at hours that varied through the day. Scott wrote that the job made him feel insecure, according to Nicki Swift’s summaries of the book. “Work seemed to be putting more and more distance between us,” he wrote. Coverage of the memoir also says that conditions worsened when Scott traveled to Canada to shoot a sizzle reel for what became Property Brothers.

The moment Scott identifies as the end came on Facebook. He wrote that Ully changed her relationship status from married to blank. He also wrote that he questioned his own part. “I asked myself if I had somehow failed her as a husband,” he wrote. “I had never been unfaithful. Or even disrespectful.” The couple tried counseling, but it did not repair the marriage. “She moved out, and we filed for divorce,” Scott wrote. Elsewhere in the book, he says, “The pain ended up outlasting the marriage.”

In interviews, Scott has presented the split as a mismatch rather than a matter of blame. “I think that one of the biggest things I learned is that you can have two good people who are just not good for each other,” he told People in 2017. Every detail in this section comes from Scott. Ully has not publicly given her version of these events.

The divorce timeline and the reported dispute over their home

Accounts of when the marriage ended do not line up neatly. The table shows what each source says.

The gap between a marriage that ended around 2009 or 2010 and a divorce reported as final in 2013 overlaps with a legal dispute. In September 2017, In Touch reported on court documents from the divorce, which concerned the sale of the couple’s home in Canada. As YourTango relays the report, Ully alleged that she signed a document related to the sale under “duress and harassment.”

Later summaries of the In Touch report describe the court’s resolution differently. These details come from a magazine’s reading of court papers, not the court record itself, so they are best treated as reported. Linking the dispute to the length of the divorce is an inference from the timing. Neither Scott nor Ully has said so publicly.

Did Kelsy Ully and Jonathan Scott have children?

No. Kelsy Ully and Jonathan Scott did not have children together. Scott said so in his 2017 People interview, as quoted by Fox News: “I’m glad that we found that out early. You know, we didn’t have kids or anything. And it really helped me understand what I wanted in a relationship.”

Kelsy Ully today

Kelsy Ully has stayed private since the divorce. She has not given interviews about her marriage to Jonathan Scott or responded publicly to his memoir. The List noted that a Twitter account YourTango linked to her in 2018 has since been deleted.

Many biography pages fill the silence with an age, a height, a net worth, a new surname or a current husband. None of these traces to a reliable source. A widely repeated 1988 birth year, for instance, would mean she was in her early teens when, according to Fox News, the relationship began. There is no public confirmation of whether Kelsy Ully has remarried or who her partner might be, and those questions belong to her private life.

Jonathan Scott’s relationships since the divorce

Interest in Kelsy Ully tends to rise with news about Scott’s later relationships.

After the divorce, Scott dated Jacinta Kuznetsov. He spoke warmly of her in his October 2017 Fox News interview, and the two split in April 2018. He met actress Zooey Deschanel in the summer of 2019 while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke with their siblings, Drew Scott and Emily Deschanel. According to ET, he proposed in August 2023 at Edinburgh Castle, with a pipe band in place. That detail echoes the bagpipes he says were left out of his first wedding.

As of late October 2026, Scott and Deschanel had not married. In a People interview reported by ComingSoon.net on October 26, 2026, Deschanel said, “We don’t have really firm plans yet. It depends on a lot of different factors.” That means Jonathan Scott has been married once, to Kelsy Ully.

Final Thoughts

The documented record on Kelsy Ully is brief. She was an airline crew scheduler who married Jonathan Scott in the summer of 2007, after years together. The marriage broke down after the couple moved to Las Vegas, they had no children, and the divorce is reported to have ended in 2013 after a dispute over their Canadian home.

The reasons for the breakup come almost entirely from Scott’s memoir and interviews, and her one documented position survives only through summaries of a 2017 In Touch report. Readers should treat claims about her age, wealth or present family as unsupported. As of late October 2026, the ongoing part of the story is Scott’s: he is engaged to Zooey Deschanel, and they have not set a wedding date.
